Paula Sorensen, OD
Dr. Paula Sorensen grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from North Dakota State University. She went on to graduate from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1991.
After practicing in the Minneapolis area for several years, Dr. Sorensen moved to Rapid City in 1994. In 1999, she opened In Vision Optical & Eyecare, where she continues to provide comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages.
Dr. Sorensen is known for taking time with each patient to ensure the highest quality of care. She has a special passion for specialty contact lenses, including: * Myopia control – helping slow the progression of nearsightedness in children * Scleral lens fittings – particularly for patients with keratoconus and other corneal conditions In addition to her optometry expertise, Dr. Sorensen has completed a nutrition certification and incorporates nutritional guidance into her care recommendations, offering a more holistic approach to eye health.
Outside of the office, Dr. Sorensen enjoys spending time with her husband Greg, their two sons and daughters-in-law, and their extended family and friends. Her hobbies include hiking, biking, yoga, golfing, and reading.
Greg Sorensen, OD
Dr. Greg Sorensen grew up in Montevideo, MN and earned a BA in Biology from Moorhead State University. He graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1991. After working a couple of years in the Twin Cities area he moved to Rapid City in 1994. Greg was the sole optometrist at Shopko Optical from 1994 until Shopko’s closing in April of 2019. He has retained all his patient's files from Shopko.
Dr. Greg is married to Paula. They have two sons, Ben and Jack. Greg enjoys hiking, biking, golfing and daily walks. He loved to watch his boys play baseball and enjoys time with his family.
Steven Schaefer, OD
Dr. Steven Schaefer grew up in Rapid City SD where he attended Stevens High School. He earned a BA in Biology from Augustana University in Sioux Falls SD. He then graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 2022 earning his Doctorate of Optometry and summa cum laude honors. Following graduation, Dr. Schaefer furthered his training as an optometrist at Black Hills Regional Eye Institute where he primarily focused on ocular disease and pre/post operative surgical care.
Dr. Schaefer has a passion for all areas of optometry, including cornea and contact lens, dry eyes, ocular disease, pre and post op surgical management and routine eye care. Dr. Schaefer enjoys implementing new technology and products in his exams and treatment protocols to allow his patients to obtain their best possible visual outcomes and ocular comfort.
Dr. Schaefer is married to his wife, Anna and together they have two young children, Dean and Ella. Outside of the clinic he enjoys golfing, playing basketball and spending quality time with family and friends.
Sarah Petereit Houdek, OD

Lynnell, office Manager/Optician
Lynnell joined our team in 2014, bringing with her three years of previous experience as an Optician. Her expertise include assisting patients in selecting the appropriate eye wear and lens options to enhance their look and lifestyle. She has the pleasure of meeting with frame reps and selecting the latest and greatest eye wear. She also ensures that daily operations run smoothly in the office
BOBBIE, Front Desk REceptionist
Bobbie is here to greet you at our front desk. She makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Bobbie helps with scheduling, checking in patients, verifying insurance and many other necessary patient communications.
Abi, optician
Abi joined our team in 2012. She keeps up with all of the contact lens inventory and patient orders, ensuring that everyone gets what they need quickly and efficiently. You will also find her helping patients to select the perfect set of glasses for their everyday life. Abi enjoys making sure that everyone that walks in the office feels welcome and at home.
Sean, optician
Sean comes to In Vision with five years of optical experience. He and Dr Greg worked together at Shopko Optical. He is very personable and enjoys helping patients find the right pair of glasses for their needs. His expertise is optical selection, adjusting , repairs and sales.
Anna, optician
Anna comes to us with experience as an optician from the Shopko family. She is willing to help in the office wherever needed. She is a wonderful addition bringing her love for people and helpful attitude.
Christina, Optician
I am a proud parent of three children, 18 year old twins and a 5 year old. I was born in Grand Island, NE and raised in Castle Rock, Colorado. I enjoy outdoors, such as hiking, swimming or any sporting event. I am delighted to have joined the team at In Vision Optical, as an Optometric Assistant. I play a crucial role in the operation of optometry practices, assisting our optometrists in providing excellent eye care to patients. I am a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe with 2 years of experience as an Optician and Optometric Assistant. I am looking forward to many more years helping our communities. Christina Crazy Thunder
